This page begins with the link to the parent guide to the Individual Education Plan (IEP) from the Illinois State Board (ISBE). This is a good overview of the process. Below are sections of the IEP in the order that they come with a short tutorial and description of each section.
Present Levels: In this section strengths and challenges are described in the areas of academics, communication, motor skills, functional skills (social/emotional, independence, vocational, health, etc) - and how they impact progress in school.
Goal Pages: These pages reflect annual goals that are set based on areas of challenge as described in the Present Levels. Measurable goals are set to promote and monitor growth for each student.
Accommodations and Supports: Based on the present levels of the student, accommodations and supports in the general education classroom and on assessments (ie. tests, quizzes, state/local/district assessments) are defined. The purpose of these are to provide them with a 'level playing field' in the general education setting.
PARCC and DLM: Special accommodations are listed in these sections for state required assessments.
Services and Placement: These pages describe where the student is receiving instruction and/or accommodations and supports - in the general education or special education setting.
